\"i\" statements

When you hear the phrase "get over yourself" what does it mean? Four people I know have used it lately, and I'm not sure what exactly they're getting at when they scream it at each other. Everyone's so effing selfish. EVERYONE. I'm including myself here. Everyone except like maybe Mother Theresa (sp?) or Ghandi or Jesus. I'm sure they were tempted at some times though. Because they were all human. So... seriously. If someone's being selfish, it seems like telling them to get over themselves isn't so much telling them to change their nature (because they can't) is as trying to say "You've hurt my feelings, and I'd like an apology."

In other words... let's use "I" statements, kids.

I feel (adjective) when you (verb) because (reason).

Example:
I feel happy when you talk to me because I believe you're a great person.
or:
I feel like killing you when you talk at me because it sounds condescending.

Maybe those weren't great examples, but I know you all took health class in 10th grade, so you should get the picture.
